NEW MEXICO — A new wave of deportation raids by ICE agents was reported in Clovis and Portales, according to the immigrant rights group Somos un Pueblo Unido.
At least eight Clovis residents were detained by ICE agents, including workers supporting the local economy, according to Emmanuelle Leal-Sanchez, communications coordinator with the immigrant rights group.
ICE would not confirm any activities in Clovis, but many local residents said the ICE agents had used very aggressive intimidation and scare tactics at people’s homes when they arrived the week of July 17.
Many immigrant advocates have said the Trump administration is not prioritizing deportation of criminals, but instead is arresting people without criminal records, in order to fulfill Trump’s campaign promise of mass deportation.Like this story?
